Simple Lockpicking (Customizable QTE System)
IMPORTANT NOTE:
This mod is strictly designed for the LEGACY version of GTA V. It is NOT compatible with the Enhanced edition.
Description:
Simple Lockpicking gives GTA V's stale car theft mechanics a long-overdue gameplay rework. No more instant glass-shattering or effortless hotwiring. Stealing a locked vehicle now triggers an active Quick-Time Event minigame where every second counts.
In vanilla GTA V, grabbing a parked car is completely effortless. Simple Lockpicking introduces real gameplay tension to vehicle theft. You must stay focused and hit your inputs clean. Screw up the timing, and you will waste precious seconds stuck on the sidewalk while cops or aggressive pedestrians close in on you.
Whether you want a casual timing minigame or an unforgiving test of split-second reflexes, the included ini config file lets you fine-tune keybindings, QTE speed, and difficulty scaling to suit your exact playstyle.
How to Play:
1. Approach a locked vehicle and press your entry key.
2. The QTE prompt will pop up on your HUD.
3. Hit the designated inputs within the timing window to pick the lock and get inside.
4. Fail the timing, and your character stumbles, extending the time you are exposed on the street!
Key Features:
- Interactive QTE Minigame: Replaces default break-in animations with an active reflexes-based minigame.
- Deep INI Customization: Adjust keybinds, QTE prompt speeds, failure penalties, and difficulty windows.
- Remote Locking Support: Out-of-the-box support for R3QQ's Vehicle Remote Central Locking. Player-owned vehicles remain properly locked with a key fob and won't trigger lockpicking glitches.
- Risk and Suspense: Keeps you vulnerable during theft attempts, making crime near cops or gang territories dangerous.
- Performance Friendly: Clean code with zero impact on frame rates.
Upcoming Features:
- Native Integration: Built-in support for Added Traffic (by I'm Not MentaL & Starman0620).
Quick Setup:
1. Ensure Script Hook V and Script Hook V Dot Net are installed.
2. Unzip the download and drop SimpleLockpicking.dll, SimpleLockpicking.pdb and SimpleLockpicking.ini into your Grand Theft Auto V/scripts folder.
3. Launch the game and test your luck on the nearest parked car!
Requirements:
- GTA V Legacy Version (NOT Enhanced)
- ScriptHookV
- Community ScriptHookVDotNet (v3.0 or higher)
Changelog:
v1.1
- Added In-car Hotwiring QTE minigame required to start the engine after breaking in.
- Added Police Alert system: failing a QTE can now trigger a 1-star wanted level.
v1.0
- Initial public release.
- Added full INI configuration for keybinds and difficulty variables.
Feedback and Compatibility:
Works seamlessly with Story Mode and most popular police or pedestrian AI overhauls. Got feedback or balancing suggestions for default speed settings? Drop a comment on the page!

Known Issue: Incompatible with Added Traffic (by I'm Not MentaL & Starman0620). Vehicles spawned by Added Traffic cannot be lockpicked or hotwired, forcing the player to enter via the vanilla method (breaking the window). A fix is planned for a future update.
This is really nice, maybe make it where a star warrant will appear if you fail once to alert the police.
@Starfox1993 Thank you for the 5-star rating! That is a great suggestion. I will look into adding a option in the ini file for failed QTEs to trigger a wanted level in a future update.
really great mod!!! :D
@Faitorr Thanks!
@Cookie0315 Make sure you add it in the good way, you can't steal a car and failed and police will be alerted, make it like if there is others peds seeing the scene they will call police. By The Way, Great Script!
Very good mod. Can you perhaps make optional verson with window length and cursor speed are random, which means every locpicking will be different window lenght and cursor speed. Thank you very much for mod.
add some animation bro
@Hanzek thanks for your suggestion, i will consider to add that option, btw you can change the cursor speed in the ini file yourself
@Thomas_141 guess why the word "simple" is in the name of this mod? I'll still consider adding an option to enable it in the ini file
@ZennoxTheModder guess why the word "simple" is in the name of this mod? I'll still consider adding an option to enable it in the ini file
@Cookie0315 Okay bet.
