Ambient Hit Squads v1.0
This mod was built from the ground up to feel like an official Rockstar mechanic, making it the perfect enhancement to play alongside the main campaign, even if it is your very first time playing GTA V. Ambushes are strictly disabled during missions and cutscenes, meaning they will never break or interrupt your story progression. It simply fills the free-roam downtime between missions with organic, high-stakes action.
Inspired directly by the gang ambushes from Red Dead Redemption 2, this mod ensures you are never truly safe while exploring. As you drive through the city or out in Blaine County, rival factions will actively hunt you down, cut you off, and attempt to collect the bounty on your head.
MINOR SPOILER WARNING: The description below contains slight faction and story progression spoilers for the GTA V campaign.
Lore-Friendly Encounters
This isn't just random peds spawning with guns. The hit squads are deeply tied to the game's lore and change dynamically depending on which character you are playing as:
Franklin: Rival gangs haven't forgotten about you. Expect drive-bys and ambushes from the Ballas and the Vagos.
Michael: You’ve made some powerful enemies in the government. You will be hunted by rogue FIB and IAA black-ops teams driving armored SUVs and carrying high-tier tactical weapons (providing a tougher challenge to balance Michael's bullet-time ability).
Trevor: Blaine County is a warzone. You will be tracked down by the Lost MC (attacking on bikes and in vans) and the Aztecas, who carry heavy firepower due to their status as gunrunners.
The Merryweather Escalation:
Included is a lore-friendly toggle for Merryweather. Once you complete the game's Merryweather Heist, you can enable them in the settings. From that point on, Merryweather mercenaries will join the hunt. If you are flying a plane or helicopter when an ambush triggers, Merryweather will deploy Buzzard attack helicopters to shoot you out of the sky.
Important Gameplay Note
Collecting Vehicle Cash: If you shoot and kill an enemy while they are still sitting inside their car, their cash drop will stay inside the vehicle with them. You will need to walk up to the car doors and physically pull their bodies out of the vehicle to collect your reward!
Fully Configurable
Make the mod fit your exact playstyle. The included AmbientHitSquads.ini allows you to customize:
Spawn Timers: Set exactly how often ambushes can occur (Default is a random roll between 4 to 8 minutes).
Cash Drops: Enemies drop customized amounts of cash when killed, rewarding you for surviving the ambush.
Police Blindspots: By default, the mod temporarily disables your wanted level during a hit squad attack so you can fight back without the LSPD immediately third-partying the shootout. (Can be toggled off or adjusted!).
Manual Hotkey: Off by default, Test spawns or instantly trigger an ambush with the press of a button (Default: O).
Requirements
To run this mod, you will need the standard GTA V scripting hooks:
1. Script Hook V by Alexander Blade
2. scripthookVdotnet v3
Installation
1. Install the requirements listed above.
2. Open your main Grand Theft Auto V game folder.
3. Open the scripts folder. (If you don't have one, simply create a new folder and name it 'scripts').
4. Drag and drop AmbientHitSquads.dll and AmbientHitSquads.ini into the scripts folder.
5. Open the .ini file to configure your timers and toggles, then launch the game!
Coming Soon: The Escalation System
Surviving an ambush is about to get a lot more rewarding—and a lot more dangerous. In a future update, I will be introducing a dynamic Escalation & Bounty System:
Survival Streaks: The more hit squads you wipe out back-to-back without dying, the higher your hidden "heat" level will climb.
Deadlier Ambushes: As your escalation level rises, the script will stop sending 2-door cars and start forcing fully loaded 4-door vehicles, higher-tier weapons, shorter spawn timers, and more aggressive AI.
High Risk, High Reward: The harder the squad, the bigger the cash drop. Survive long enough, and you'll be fighting off massive, high-tier assaults for huge payouts—until they finally take you down and your heat resets!
Known Issues
Spawn Pathing: Because the mod calculates spawn coordinates dynamically based on your current location and heading, there is a small chance an enemy vehicle might spawn in an awkward spot (like a tight alleyway, against a wall, or on a steep cliff) and get stuck. If their AI can't reverse out of it, they will usually abandon the vehicle and try to chase you on foot.

looks sick
Thank you! hope you enjoy 😄
I see you... I see you.....
@thalilmythos Is this compatible with the Beef mod?
@ComeFlyWithMe They do the same, the beef is dynamic though you only get hit squads from gangs you messed with, the only thing you're missing from this on the beef, is the helicopters, any other questions make them on the beef I don't think is right to talk about that in this mod.
@ComeFlyWithMe I dont see why you couldnt run both! more people to blast at 🔫
@thalilmythos got it, captain!
why are police shooting IAA Hitsquads
@Unknown_User000a Well my thinking is they are rogue agents not necessarily operating withing the bounds of the law, so the LSPD probably doesnt really want them causing chaos on the streets. It wouldnt be too hard to change though I'm just not sure how I feel about it yet. I'm open to discussion tho!
will there be more federal hitsquads like Black helicopters, Black Vans and G Men Suit Agents
@Unknown_User000a Yeah part of the upcoming escalation system is gonna add helicopter attacks even when your on the ground, and they’ll definitely come from FIB and IAA and prob the gangs too. I’m pretty sure blacked out Grangers are in the spawn list for Agents already. Is that what you meant?
(needs update for SHVDN3 v3.9.0)
when will escalation system come out and is there gonna be a heat system so you dont get attacked immediately for nothing
@Unknown_User000a about a week till the next update, i've been working on another mod you'll see on here soon. but im finished with it now so gonna take a small break then get back to work on this one. And no i dont have plans for a heat system. i recommend the wonderful mod The Beef by @thalilmythos that might be closer to what you are looking for
