@alloc8or Thanks for flagging that, and sorry for the hassle. sa2launch.exe was a small new helper that starts Sonic Adventure 2 through Steam for the new Shadow feature, and it set off the same kind of machine-learning detections d3d9check.exe did back in 0.2.0. Same fix as then: sa2launch.exe is gone and its job is now built into SonicGTALauncher.exe, which already had version info and a standard manifest. The SA2 mod DLL now has version info too, and nothing in the mod is packed or obfuscated. The new files on VirusTotal: SonicGTALauncher.exe https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/4684ca7e55ba48ee2b5934eec73ddf9f9447b187af0301bffd8801854826fa57 (1/71) and SonicGTA.dll https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/8585b5d29630501e690b093af6413d52f20914857157ee0811b0ebece40b6a38 (2/70). I've re-uploaded 2.0.0 with these.
@TiredLink Thanks, glad you’re enjoying it! That one’s on purpose: while you’re playing as one of the Sonic characters, GTA’s character switch is turned off, because the mod uses those keys and a switch mid-run would break Sonic mode. Turn Sonic mode off first (F6 or the \ key), then the Alt wheel, F5 for Michael and F7 for Trevor work like normal. The only one the mod keeps is F6, so to get back to Franklin use the wheel. If it still won’t let you switch with Sonic mode off, let me know and I’ll take a look.
@Benji23245 Hahaha thank you - It started with the idea of running both games at once and having them talk to each other every frame. From there it’s been round after round of playing it, recording clips and tuning one move or effect at a time until each character felt right in Los Santos. A lot of late nights, honestly. And 0.9.0 is out now, so cruise control holds whatever speed you’re at. Have fun with it!
@lobotomy Yesss, so glad to hear it! Thanks for sticking with it through all those tests - Have fun mate 🙏
@trepeserafin Sorry, that’s down to my wording. The SADX mods setting isn’t in 0.9.0: it’s in the next update, which isn’t out yet. I’ll mention you here when it is.
0.9.0 itself is zipped properly: I downloaded it from the page and it’s byte for byte the file I built, with everything in it. The new camera switch doesn’t need a line in SonicGTA.ini either, so if V does nothing in Sonic mode (and neither does the road autopilot), your game is most likely still running the older version. With GTA closed, run SonicGTA-Setup.exe from the 0.9.0 zip: it should say it’s updating your install to 0.9.0. Back in the game, the key card (H shows or hides it) then has a Camera: Follows line with V next to it. If Setup says 0.9.0 is already installed and V still does nothing, click Save diagnostics in Setup and share the zip it makes, and I’ll take a look.
@trepeserafin That makes sense, and you’ve got the split right: Stock Speed is Sonic Adventure DX’s own physics, and the build-up in Super Speed is the mod’s own, so a physics mod should show up in Stock Speed (I haven’t tried one yet, though). Good news: the update after 0.9.0 adds a setting for exactly this. Copy your SADX mods into the sadx\mods folder of the mod’s install folder, list their folder names in SonicGTA.ini, and they’ll load alongside the two the mod needs. It’s empty by default, so nothing changes for anyone else, and it’s for tinkerers: if something acts up, empty it first. Mods that change levels, menus or the camera probably won’t get along with it, since the mod runs the game hidden in a level of its own. If you build that physics mod, I’d love to see it!
@Yoshiko So glad it’s working, and that explains the different PC in your diagnostics! The coloured ball only happened when Sonic Adventure DX ran on Windows’ own DirectX 9, and the update I uploaded today (0.9.0) fixes that bug, so it shouldn’t come back even if it switches over again. It’ll show up on the page once the site approves it.
The lag makes sense too: the mod runs two games at once, GTA V and Sonic Adventure DX, so it asks more of the graphics card than GTA on its own. Lowering GTA’s resolution was exactly the right fix. Have fun!
@Benji23245 Thank you, that really means a lot! Here’s roughly how it works. Both games really are running at once. When you turn on Sonic mode, the mod starts Sonic Adventure DX hidden in the background, in a level of its own. That level is Los Santos: Setup builds it from your own GTA V files the first time (that’s the few minutes it takes), so Sonic runs on the same ground, roads and buildings you see.
Every frame, GTA sends your controls and its camera over to Sonic Adventure DX, which moves the character with its own physics, moves, animations and sounds, then sends back where he is and how his model looks right now. GTA draws him with its own lighting and shadows. Your GTA character is still there too, invisible, following him around so GTA’s camera and the city keep up with him.
Cars and people aren’t part of that level, so GTA takes care of them. When Sonic hits something, GTA sends it flying with its own physics and tells Sonic Adventure DX to bounce him off it, the way he bounces off a badnik. For E-102’s lock-on and Sonic’s light speed attack, the cars and people near you also get invisible stand-ins inside Sonic Adventure DX, so the game’s own lock-on can aim at them, and GTA blows up whatever gets hit.
The rest has been a lot of rounds of playing and tuning, one move and one effect at a time, until each character felt right in Los Santos.
And the cruise control change is in 0.9.0, which I uploaded today. It’ll show up on the page once the site approves it.
@Benji23245 So glad you're enjoying the cruise control! The 432 km/h was a limit I'd left in, not something it needs, so I've taken it out: in the next update, cruise control on the ground holds whatever speed you're at, the way it already does flying as Super Sonic.
A distance counter for each character is a great idea, I've added it to my list.
The race missions are Rockstar's own scripts, and each one checks for itself that you stay with its car. Switching that off would mean changing every mission, so that one isn't something I can do any time soon, sorry.
@trepeserafin Thank you, that means a lot! You're not doing anything wrong. Every time the mod starts Sonic Adventure DX, it switches on only the two mods it needs (Frame Limit and its own) in its own copy, so anything else you enable there gets switched off again. That keeps it starting the same way on every PC, because the mod runs the game hidden, in a level of its own, and most SADX mods change levels, menus or the camera. Mods that only change how the characters look would be the fun ones to support, so I'm keeping that in mind for a future update. No promises yet.
