The MD 902 Explorer is a light, twin-engine utility helicopter manufactured by MD Helicopters. It is highly regarded for its multi-mission capabilities, serving primarily in emergency medical services (EMS), law enforcement, corporate transport, and search and rescue operations.
NOTAR® Anti-Torque System: The most defining feature of the MD 902 is its No Tail Rotor (NOTAR) technology. Instead of a traditional spinning tail rotor, it uses low-pressure air expelled through slots in the tail boom to control direction. This significantly reduces external noise, lowers vibration, and eliminates the hazard of tail rotor strikes, making it exceptionally safe for tight urban environments and confined landing zones.
