Drag Meets [Being rewritten] 1.8.1b


This script is known for not working properly if you don't have the game up to date. I'm rewriting it from scratch, you can check out the progress here. Drag Meets 2.0

Drag Meets brings some life to The San Andreas State by adding various fully functional Drag Meets around its territory.

In them, you will be able to spectate these one-on-one races, bet on your favourite Racer, and even participate yourself!

  • Immersive implementation: no user input required, the Meets spawn automatically when relevant to the player, and manage themselves without player help.
  • Car variety: Over 100 cars have been tuned to participate in the Drag Meets, with more to come with each update
  • Driver ability: each driver has its own skill, divided into Reaction Time and Gear Changing ability, which affect how well they perform in each race.
  • Betting system: before each race, you can approach one of the drivers and bet some money on him, adding a new layer of fun
  • Player participation: you can participate in the races by parking your car in the designated area. You'll notified when it's your turn to race.
  • Each Meet includes cheering crowds, other parked cars and its very own Countdown Girl, who marks the start of each race with a Flare Gun. A barrel marking the finish line is also there.
  • Meets can be disbanded by calling the police (disabled by default to avoid compatiblity issues with Police mods).
  • Some Meets only happen at night, on weekends or both. Lamar will message you when a Meet is available so you don't miss any.

Not all rigs can handle the +30 vehicles on the LS Airport meet. If you experience a performance hit or your game crashes while you're on a big meet, I suggest you edit the Meet's file and lower the car limit to 15 or so.

Copy "Drag Meets.dll" and the "DragMeets" folder to your /Grand Theft Auto V/scripts/ folder.

There's a config.ini file you can edit inside /scripts/DragMeets/. From there, you can decide if you want races to be disbanded by police or not, and enable/disable random reaction times on the drivers.

You can also edit all the meet files to your likings, to make them be available every day instead of weekends, or change the kind of cars they allow, for example.
The same goes for the Drivers file, explained below.

  • Keep adding cars and new Meets.

Reccommended Mods
- Auto-Center Steering Patch, so all the vehicles steer correctly when parked.
- Any visual mod of your choice.
- Any handling mod of your choice.

Adding your own vehicles to the Script's files
There isn't a easy-to-use tool yet, but you can use what I did to add new vehicles.

While on a meet, go to your car and press the spacebar while stopped. The game will inform you that your car has been saved to a file. Open that file, copy its content and paste it on the \scripts\DragMeets\Drivers\Drivers.xml, inside the Drivers bracket, between the other drivers. You can edit the file to your likings, just use other drivers in there as reference.

Known Bugs
  • A rare bug can occur where the Meet can't load properly. The game will inform you if this happens. Just reload scripts pressing INSERT and the Meet should load properly now.
  • Sometimes, the cars have difficulty reaching the Waiting Area. You may need to bump into them so they find their way around that lamp post.

- Removed timeframe limits for the Meets. They will be there every day, every hour. You can revert to the old system in the config file.
- Made AI drive faster to the Meeting area and their spot on the race.
- Extended the vehicle-unstuck utility's patience to allow racers get to their places without being reset.
- Added some new Import/Export vehicles.
- Added some fixes to make sure all vehicles from the config files are added.
- Added a random tuning feature for the cars. If you don't like it, disable it in the config file.
- Optimiced code.
- Reworked the Gear Changing Ability so it's more realistic and emulates Manual Transmission behavior. Drivers will now benefit from a small temporal boost each time they change gear. The higher their skill, the higher the boost.
- Made the Meet mechanics more intuitive so people understand how to play.
- Reduced the chance of Meets not loading. I've implemented some failsafes in case it keeps happening.
- Added a new Meet on the road to Humane Labs.
- Added some new cars.
- Added ability to enter the car you bet on as passenger.
- Redefined car categories: Bigger meets (read: airports) are all about supercars, smaller meets have Tuners and Street racers. This should also make the races more balanced.

    @mrphillips certainly the game doesn't tell you how its done, I should change that. Just go to the car you want to bet for, when they're going to the starting line.

    This is an awesome mod,,,thumbs up! Played for about an hour last night. Now this morning, it won't load, keeps giving me error in XML file. Also can't load some cars. Where can I download 1.9.3b? Or 2.0 if it's ready? Thanks

    I'm playing your 1.9.3b version and bet system is completely wrong. It works another way. In a simpliest case we have 2 drivers. For ex. people who thinks Driver 1 win:

    1: 112$
    2: 430$
    3: 50$
    Total: 112 + 430 + 50 = 592$ is in pool.

    And their shares is in the prize pool MUST be equal to their risk:
    1. 100% * (112 / 592) = 18.92%
    2. 100% * (430 / 592) = 72.64%
    3. 100% * (50/ 592) = 8.45%
    all values are rounded because it's just an example.

    Other 2 ones thinks Driver 2 will win, and their bets are:
    1. 721$ - 84.23%
    2. 135$ - 15.77%
    TOTAL: 856$ - 100%

    For example Driver 1 wins. That 3 ones get their bets back and earn reward depenfing their share in the total pool:

    Total prize pool is 856$ based on money of that two guys, so:
    1. 856 * 18.92% = 162$
    2. 856 * 72.64% = 622$
    3. 856 * 8.45% = 72$

    As you can see the reward is not equal bet but technically may be much more than their bet. The total prize pool depends on the mathematical expectation that MUST be 0 for all participants and < 0 or > 0 for losing and wining side respectively.

    There's a simple formula for that:

    potentialReward * chanceToWin - potentialLoss * chanceToLoss = desired mathematical expectation.

    In addition if we have 3 and more drivers, the total prize pool are based on their place and corrected by WEIGHT coefficients. For ex. 1st place - 70%, 2nd - 30%, 3rd - 0% (they completely lost their bets and got no reward).

    Also there's no option to diable map blips. You know the game has blip limit (probably hardcoded) so a lot of other blips just disappeared. It would be nice to give a way to disable (and re-enable) blips via config, key, menu or something else.

    @Eddlm hey man, so the 1.9.3 is working fine, the meets can be spawn, there is lots of cars parking at the meets, but i have 1 problem here. Why when there is a 10 cars drag battle, they go to at their position at the starting line, then nothing happens. the car just quiet, they're not racing, they just quiet at their starting line, feels weird ya know.

    Did u know the problem of that and how to fix it? thanks dude

    @Ivanya Hey, thanks for the suggestion, and sorry for the late reply. I know the betting system is not very realistic (currently the winner gets the total ammount of $ betted, very simple). I see you're knowedgeable on betting systems, but I prefer forum, yeah. If you could go to the Drag Meets 2.0 thread (linked in the description) and post it so we discuss there, that'd be great.

    I'll work on the blip problem.

    @NickySan check your scripthookdotnet.log, inside the GTA V folder. The script is probably crashing for some reason.

    @Eddlm When I try to spawn a race I get a infinite blackscreen and sometimes pop up a the error message "err_mem_embeddedalloc_guard_5" but I have 8 GB and 12 GB RAM now and its still not spawning. Any ideas?

    u should make it so certain races u can win the persons car that u raced or if u win a certain amount of races u go to the finals and if u win u get a car that would be cool
